CRAY APP FAQ’s

General Product Questions

What exactly is CRAY and how does it work?

CRAY is a proactive dating and relationship safety platform designed to help people identify behavioral risks before they get hurt—emotionally, financially, or physically.

How is CRAY different from other dating safety apps?

CRAY evaluates real, observed behavior using a weighted scoring system to identify risk patterns early. Most apps tell you who someone was; CRAY focuses on how they’re acting right now and what that typically leads to.

Who is the app designed for?

CRAY is designed for anyone navigating relationships, but it’s especially valuable for higher-risk groups like young adults, people newly single after long-term relationships, and those with past trauma. Each group faces different vulnerabilities—limited experience, outdated assumptions about dating, or difficulty recognizing red flags—and CRAY helps close those gaps with structured, objective insights.

Is the app only for dating situations or can it be used for other online meetups?

The app can be used to evaluate any interpersonal relationship, whether a friend, a dating partner, or someone you’ve just met. The goal of the app is to help teach users how to evaluate these relationships more safely with the right tools

Is CRAY free or paid?

Most of CRAY is free, but there are paid components within the app. CrayScore and SchemerScore are currently free, but the CatfishCheck, OffenderCheck, and VibeCheck are in-app purchases that cost money due to data costs.

What platforms is the app available on (iOS, Android)?

CRAY is currently available in the iOS App Store and Google Play, with a web version launching in the very near future.

How do users download and start using the app?

They visit the app store that they have access to and download the app. Once downloaded, they will be required to register as a user with their mobile phone number. Once completed they will have access to the app and the assessments.

What age do I need to be to use CRAY?

CRAY is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. This ensures users can safely and responsibly navigate relationship decisions and privacy considerations.

Is CRAY available outside the United States?

Yes, CRAY can be used outside the United States, as it focuses on behavioral patterns and communication signals that apply across locations. Some features may vary depending on regional data availability, but the core functionality works globally.

Is CRAY a background check app?

No, CRAY is not a background check app. It focuses on evaluating real-time behavior and patterns to identify potential risks, rather than relying solely on past records or static data.

About the Safety Tools

CRAYSCORE

What factors go into calculating a CRAYSCORE?

CrayScore is calculated using a weighted model of observed behaviors, including patterns like inconsistency, lack of accountability, pressure, deception, and other known red flags linked to unhealthy or unsafe relationship dynamics. Each factor is scored based on severity and frequency, with higher-risk behaviors contributing more to the overall score.

How accurate is the CRAYSCORE?

CrayScore is built on research-backed behavioral patterns and weighted risk modeling, so it’s highly effective at identifying concerning trends—but it’s not a prediction or diagnosis. Its accuracy depends on the quality and honesty of the inputs, making it a decision-support tool, not a definitive judgment.

What kinds of red flags does the system detect?

CRAY detects patterns of behavior linked to unhealthy or unsafe dynamics, such as manipulation, deception, inconsistency, lack of accountability, coercion, emotional instability, and exploitative tendencies. It focuses on repeated behaviors and patterns—not one-off moments—to identify risks early.

How serious do the red flags have to be before they appear?

Red flags don’t have to be extreme to appear—CRAY detects both subtle and serious behaviors, with severity reflected in how much they impact the overall score. Smaller patterns show up early, while more severe or repeated behaviors carry greater weight and raise risk levels faster.

What are the 70+ potential red flags?

CRAY evaluates 70+ research-backed red flags across key behavior categories, covering patterns like dishonesty, inconsistency, manipulation, boundary violations, coercion, emotional instability, and exploitative tendencies. These aren’t one-off moments—they’re repeatable behaviors that, when combined, signal elevated relationship risk.

What are the 18 categories?

CRAY evaluates behavior across 18core categories that capture the most common risk patterns inrelationships:

1. Honesty & Transparency

2. Consistency &Follow-Through

3. Accountability

4. Communication Quality

5. Emotional Stability

6. Respect for Boundaries

7. Pressure & Pace Control

8. Manipulation Tactics

9. Gaslighting & RealityDistortion

10. Jealousy & Possessiveness

11. Control & Dominance

12. Empathy & Consideration

13. Conflict Resolution Style

14. Reliability &Dependability

15. Social & LifestyleAlignment

16. Sexual Respect & ConsentAwareness

17. Financial Behavior &Exploitation Risk

18. Intentions & RelationshipAlignment

Eachcategory contributes differently to the overall score based on howstrongly it’s linked to unhealthy or unsafe relationship outcomes.

What should I do if someone receives a high CRAYSCORE?

If someone receives a high CrayScore, it’s a strong signal to slow down, create distance, and reassess the relationship with clear boundaries. Focus on your safety first—avoid deeper emotional, physical, or financial involvement, and consider seeking input from trusted people before deciding how to proceed.

Should I actually run when the app tells me?

Not literally—but you should take it seriously and create distance. A high-risk result is a signal to slow down, set boundaries, and reassess before getting more involved.

How should users interpret or respond to a CRAYSCORE result?

CrayScore should be used as a decision-support signal—not a final judgment—helping you spot patterns you might otherwise overlook. Higher scores mean it’s time to slow down, set boundaries, and reassess before investing further, while lower scores suggest fewer current risk indicators but still require awareness over time.

How is VibeCheck different from CrayScore?

VibeCheck is a quick, lightweight snapshot that gives you an immediate read on a situation, while CrayScore is a deeper, structured analysis of behavior patterns over time. Think of VibeCheck as a gut-check with guidance, and CrayScore as a more comprehensive risk assessment.

Can I re-run a check if the situation changes?

Yes, CRAY is designed to be used over time, so you can re-run a check as new behaviors or information come up. This helps you track patterns and see if things are improving or getting worse.

What does a "low risk" result actually mean — is the person safe?

VibeCheck is a quick, lightweight snapshot that gives you an immediate read on a situation, while CrayScore is a deeper, structured analysis of behavior patterns over time. Think of VibeCheck as a gut-check with guidance, and CrayScore as a more comprehensive risk assessment.

SchemerScore

What types of manipulation or deception does this tool detect?

SchemerScore detects patterns tied specifically to exploitation, such as financial manipulation, romance scams, love bombing for gain, lying about identity or circumstances, and creating urgency or dependency to extract money, sex, or resources. It focuses on behaviors that signal intentional deception with a clear payoff motive.

Does it analyze conversation patterns or behavioral signals?

Yes—CRAY evaluates both conversation patterns and behavioral signals by analyzing how someone communicates, follows through, handles boundaries, and shows up over time. It looks for consistent patterns, not isolated moments, to identify potential risk.

CatfishCheck

How does the phone number lookup work?

The phone number is submitted to our third-party data provider and a report is returned to us. We then massage the data to provide the user with the information they requested.

What data sources are used for verification?

Our third party vendor uses sources such as honeypots/traps, FraudFusionTM, Dark Web monitoring, device & behavioral fingerprinting, carrier/isp data, and public/active sources for it’s data.

What happens if the phone number is new or unlisted?

When a phone number is new, our data supplier typically assigns it a higher risk score if it lacks a "healthy" or established reputation history. New numbers, or those with a very short lifetime of activity, are treated with suspicion as they are commonly used in account origination fraud.

Offender Check

What databases are used for offender history checks?

Our third-party supplier obtains its data directly from official, publicly available state, territorial, and tribal sex offender registries. The platform updates its database daily—sometimes multiple times a day—to match the information published by law enforcement authorities, including addresses, names, and nicknames associated with registered offenders

Is the search national or state-by-state?

The search is at a state level of the user’s choosing. (going to look into a national search as an option)

How often is the information updated?

It is continuously updated by the data supplier - sometimes multiple times a day.

Privacy & Security

Is my information stored or shared?

User information is private and is never shared unless you choose to share it with other people. Users can choose to keep the information on their phone or sync to the servers so their data is not lost in the chance of a lost or broken phone.

Does CRAY sell my data to third parties?

No, CRAY does not sell your data to third parties. User information is kept private and used only to support the functionality and safety insights of the platform.

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

If you delete the app, your data is no longer actively used, and you can request full deletion of your information from CRAY’s systems. This ensures you maintain control over your data even after you stop using the platform..

Is my search history private?

All activity within the app is private and will remain private on your phone.

Does the person I’m checking get notified?

NEVER. The app is designed to be used in the privacy of your home without any impact on or awareness of others.

What personal information do I need to provide to use the app?

The user can choose as much or as little information to share with the app. The app will ask for access to contacts so that users can easily navigate to score the users they intend to. Users can use a fake name for themselves if they are concerned about information shared with the app.

How does CRAY protect user data?

All data stored on CRAY servers are encrypted and the only person with access to the dashboard is our CEO.

Is the contact information I search confidential?

Yes, no one will be notified if you do a search on someone’s phone number. CRAY is intended to be used in the privacy of your home without anyone being informed about your safety concerns.

Is the phone number or information I check stored or visible to anyone else?

No, the information is not stored in our system to be viewable to other people. Your activity in CRAY is never shown to anyone unless you screenshot the report and send it to someone else.

Universities & Campus Safety Departments

How does CRAY integrate with existing campus safety programs?

CRAY is intended to augment public safety and campus blue lights by providing students with a tool to evaluate all their social relationships. The goal is to ensure that students have the most comprehensive toolset to navigate the new and unknown social interactions they are exposed to without the safety net of their parents or family members nearby.

Can the app be customized or co-branded for our institution?

The app cannot be co-branded currently, but we could figure out a way to add styling for schools if requested and with a big enough contract.

What reporting or analytics do we receive?

We can provide data on user acquisition attributed to a school through phone number comparison to customer records.

How do you measure “incidents prevented”?

Unfortunately there is no way to measure incidents prevented. Insights like that would come from the school and analyzing statistics of their incidents between calendar years.

What does implementation on a campus look like?

This depends on the school and their budget. Ideally a customer would sign up for the Setup & Registration, Annual Membership, and Campus Marketing. Campus Marketing would include marketing collaterals for use with Title IX/Victim’s Advocacy, Health Center, Counseling Services, etc.

How long does rollout take?

This depends on which level of partnership chosen, it could be several weeks up to 2 months depending on what level of involvement the Customer wants. Printing items such as marketing collateral or merchandise do have leads times that need to be taken into account for sourcing, printing, and fulfilment.

Liability & Compliance

Does implementing CRAY reduce institutional liability?

Yes, implementing CRAY can help reduce institutional liability by adding a proactive layer of risk awareness and education before incidents occur. It demonstrates a good-faith effort to prevent harm, which can strengthen an institution’s overall safety posture and response framework.

How does it support Title IX programs?

CRAY supports Title IX programs by acting as a proactive prevention tool that helps students recognize risky behaviors before situations escalate into reportable incidents. It complements Title IX’s reactive framework by reducing risk exposure, improving awareness, and encouraging earlier, more informed decision-making.

Can CRAY be included in campus safety policy or orientation?

Yes, CRAY can be integrated into campus safety policies and orientation programs as a proactive education and risk-awareness tool. It fits naturally alongside existing resources by helping students recognize and avoid risky situations before they escalate.

Is there legal risk to the university if students rely on the app?

There’s always some legal exposure anytime a safety tool is used, but CRAY is designed as a decision-support and education tool—not a guarantee of safety—which helps limit that risk. When positioned correctly (with clear disclaimers and as part of a broader safety program), it can strengthen an institution’s risk mitigation rather than increase liability.

Implementation & Partnerships

What training is provided for staff?

CRAY currently does not have online training materials, but Customers can ask for on-site training for a fee if they would like this service. There is a plan to develop an online training portal to help train both school employees and students.

Do you provide promotional materials for students?

Yes, we have digital documents we can provide to help promote the platform to the students and administrators. Customers can also opt to choose the Campus Marketing package to help canvas the school with additional marketing and promotion.

Can we track adoption metrics?

If the school provides the cell phone number of students we can track % of students signed up. One the LMS is completed then schools can track adoption through the number of students who have completed the LMS and returned the certificate to the school.

How is usage data anonymized?

Schools do not get direct access to the assessment data, but CRAY can provide reporting on the usage of pre-purchased CatfishChecks and OffenderChecks.

Student & Parent Questions

Does using CRAY mean I don’t trust the person I’m meeting?

No—using CRAY isn’t about distrust, it’s about making informed decisions. It helps you evaluate behavior objectively so you’re not relying solely on assumptions or emotions.

How fast are the checks performed?

The checks depend completely on the user and how quickly they respond to the items presented. Once a person is trained in the app they could easily complete the checks in under 5 minutes.

Can it prevent catfishing or scams?

It can’t guarantee that these types of manipulation will never happen to you, but it will help you recognize the signs more quickly.

How does this help keep my student safe?

CRAY helps keep your student safe by teaching them how to recognize risky behaviors early and make informed decisions before situations escalate. It adds a proactive layer of protection during the highest-risk phase—meeting and interacting with new people.

Can parents access or monitor usage?

No, that is not a feature of CRAY or how it’s intended to be used. The goal is to help create independent thinkers who have the information they need to make an informed decision.

How reliable are the safety checks?

CRAY’s safety checks are grounded in research-backed behavioral patterns and structured risk modeling, making them highly reliable for identifying concerning trends. That said, they’re designed to guide decisions—not guarantee outcomes—and work best when users provide accurate, honest inputs.

My student was checked without knowing — is that legal?

CRAY evaluates user-reported observations and does not access private accounts, monitor individuals, or create public records—so it generally falls within personal use, similar to sharing opinions about someone’s behavior. However, laws can vary by jurisdiction, so institutions and users should follow applicable privacy and consent guidelines when using any evaluation tool.

Real-World Use Cases

Can I use CRAY when meeting a roommate?

Yes, CRAY can be used when meeting a roommate, as it evaluates general behavioral patterns like respect for boundaries, communication, reliability, and accountability. It’s useful for any situation where you’re deciding whether someone is safe and compatible to live or interact with.

Can it be used for marketplace purchases?

Yes, CRAY can be used for marketplace purchases by helping you assess behavioral signals like urgency, inconsistency, evasiveness, or pressure tactics that often show up in scams. It adds an extra layer of protection by flagging patterns linked to deceptive or exploitative sellers.

Does it work for social media connections?

Yes, CRAY works for social media connections by evaluating communication patterns, consistency, and potential deception signals in online interactions. It helps you spot red flags before deciding to meet or engage further.

Skeptical About Product

How accurate are your red flag assessments?

CRAY’s red flag assessments are grounded in research-backed behavioral patterns and weighted scoring, making them highly effective at identifying risk trends. However, they’re not definitive judgments—they’re most accurate when used as a consistent, honest input-driven decision tool.

Can the system produce false positives?

Yes—like any risk model, CRAY can produce false positives, especially if inputs are incomplete or misinterpreted. That’s why it’s designed as a decision-support tool to highlight patterns, not make final judgments.

How do you verify the data sources?

CRAY doesn’t independently verify external data—it relies on user-reported observations and, where applicable, trusted third-party sources. Its accuracy comes from structured analysis of behavior patterns rather than claiming to validate every individual data point.

What happens if someone disputes a result?

CRAY doesn’t assign permanent labels or public records, so there’s nothing to “appeal” in a formal sense—the results are private, input-based assessments. If someone disputes a result, it simply means the inputs or interpretations should be revisited, and users can update responses as new information becomes available. It can also be a healthy opportunity to have an honest conversation about behaviors and expectations within the relationship.

How should users balance CRAY’s recommendations with their own judgment?

CRAY should be used as a guide—not a replacement for your own judgment—helping you see patterns more clearly while still trusting your instincts and real-world context. The best decisions come from combining objective signals with your personal experience and boundaries.

Can someone game the system by presenting themselves differently?

Yes, someone can try to present themselves differently, especially short term, but CRAY is designed to detect patterns over time, not just first impressions. Consistency gaps, contradictions, and shifting behavior tend to surface as more inputs are added, making it harder to “game” the system long term.

Has CRAY been independently validated?

CRAY is built on research-backed behavioral patterns and established risk indicators, but like many emerging tools, it may not yet have extensive independent validation studies. It’s designed as a structured decision-support system, with accuracy improving as more real-world data and validation efforts are incorporated over time.
