We're Giving Every Campus a Free Launch Kit. Here's Why.

By Justin Smith, Founder & CEO of Cray

Every August, the same thing happens on campuses across the country. Orientation teams, wellness offices, and student affairs staff sit down with a mile-long to-do list and about four minutes of spare time. Student safety is on that list — it's always on that list — but building a real, sustained safety program from scratch? That takes months most campuses simply don't have.

So this fall, we're removing the excuse.

Starting now, every campus that partners with Cray — at no cost — receives our complete Campus Launch Kit: everything a school needs to launch and sustain a student safety program for the entire academic year. Free. No pilot fees, no fine print.

What's in the kit

The Campus Launch Kit is the same package we've refined with our campus partners, and it includes four things:

1. The Campus Launch Guide. A step-by-step playbook covering the two weeks before launch, launch week itself, who does what, and how to measure whether it's working. It's written for real campus staff with real workloads — not for a marketing department that doesn't exist.

2. 36 weeks of social media programming. Nine full months of ready-to-run content, August through May, mapped to the awareness calendar campuses already follow — National Campus Safety Awareness Month in September, Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, Stalking Awareness Month in January, Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month in February, Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April. Weekly post concepts, caption starters, and activation ideas, done for you.

3. Posters. Print-ready and designed to actually get noticed in a residence hall, not ignored next to the intramural flyers.

4. Launch graphics. Social-ready visuals so your accounts can announce the program the same day you decide to run it.

Altogether, it's a package we value at over $2,500 — and it now ships with our free Campus Ally tier.

Why free?

Because the math of student safety is broken, and I got tired of watching it stay broken.

The schools that most need programming like this are often the ones with the least budget and the smallest staff. When safety resources are priced like enterprise software, the campuses that can't pay simply go without — and the students go without. That's not a market failure I'm willing to build a business on.

Cray exists to help people objectively evaluate the quality and authenticity of the people they meet — in dating, in roommate situations, in friendships, in everyday interactions. Since launching in October 2025, we've grown to more than 15 campus partnerships, and the pattern we've seen is consistent: the hard part was never convincing schools that student safety matters. The hard part was giving overstretched teams something they could actually execute.

The Launch Kit is that something.

What happens next

If you work in student affairs, orientation, residence life, wellness, or Title IX — or you're a student who wants to bring this to your campus — here's how to get started:

The fall semester is weeks away. Your safety programming for the entire year can be ready before your students arrive.

Thank you for helping us make the world a better place.
